Predator control suit settlement reached in county case

Defenders of Wildlife reached a settlement with the county over a mandated environmental impact report on the predator control program. An EIR begun last September will be reviewed by county supervisors before funding the 1975 76 program. The group allows continuation of trapping this year while the report is completed and considered before next year’s program.

Weibel Winery Backdrop Sets Stage for Miss California Pageant

The Mendocino County Chamber of Commerce hosts a sponsor drawing for the Miss California pageant in Santa Cruz. Ten contestants aged 17 to 19 from Ukiah Redwood Valley Calpella and surrounding areas learn their sponsors, with talents ranging from drums to sewing to country singing.

Ukiah Theater Parking Variance Recommended by Commission

Ukiah planning commission recommended city council approve a parking variance for the Ukiah Theater lot reducing spaces from 79 to 61 57 with four employee spots. Conditions include extensive landscaping repaving planter boxes along Mill and State streets and along the east wall, plus elimination of a long driveway and curb changes. The session also covered zoning ordinance study and a Miss Willits Junior Miss pageant details with scholarships and sponsors.

Elderly Man and Girl Die in Separate Ukiah Fires

A 64 year old Theodore Dunsing died when his mobile home on Tomahawk Ranch Road burned late Thursday. Lisa Cathleen Carlson, 3, died after an explosion ignited her Clara Avenue home early Friday. The mother Sandra Carlson was hospitalized with serious burns. Fire units responded quickly. investigators cite possible cigarette ignition in the first blaze and are examining the explosion cause in the second. Eversole Mortuary handling arrangements for both victims.

Friends clarify ties and urge openness on Mendocino campus plans

January price rise slowest in nine months

Prices rose in January by the slowest rate since last April, the Labor Department said. Inflation eased though workers’ purchasing power fell 1.2 percent and wages dropped 5.1 percent from 1974. First National City Bank cut prime business loan rates to 8 percent from 8.5 percent.
