A roof fire at the Bill Jackson residence on Highway 101 caused minor damage. The blaze was reported Saturday at 4 43 p m and was attributed to a defective flue.

Eisenhower to stay in Georgia through Friday

President Eisenhower will remain in Thomasville Georgia through next Friday. He arrived last Wednesday and will return to Washington late Friday or early Saturday due to a personal engagement in the capital. Three-Car Crash North of Calpella Cited Drivers

Three vehicles collided on Highway 101 five miles north of Calpella at 4 30 p m yesterday. Charles Newby 23 Ukiah was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road Lester Wormington 26 Willits cited for speeding and Lonnie Cox 23 Ukiah for following too close. Mrs Vera Wormington and Larry Wormington 19 months and Mrs Glenda Cox 19 were treated at Ukiah General Hospital.

Pacific storm fuels heavy rain and snow across county

A Pacific storm dumped about 3.38 inches of rain in Ukiah from Saturday through 9 am today and spread snow across the county. The outage of the Spanish Mountain radio beacon disrupted by snow, power crews worked to restore it as emergency plants ran. Total seasonal rainfall reached 43.33 inches, well above last year’s 18.32 inches. Yuba City continued flood recovery.

Crash of French Airliner in Egypt Kills 52

A French airliner from Indochina to Paris hit desert terrain while approaching Cairo Airport, crashing and burning. Of 64 aboard, 52 were killed and 12 survived, with most in critical condition. Pilot Captain Charles Billet survived and described a low approach that led to the tragedy.

Ukiah pair plead not guilty in auto theft case

Lawrence Britton age 19 and Arthur E. Carpenter age 18 of Ukiah pleaded not guilty in Judge Fred Goss' Judicial District court to auto theft charges tied to an incident on or about February 3. An arraignment and preliminary hearing were scheduled for February 23.
