Legion Junior Baseball planned in Ukiah discussions

The American Legion Junior Baseball Commission led by D Patrick Ahern will meet in Ukiah to discuss rules changes area playoffs and where the state championship will be played. Commissioners from across California including Jack G Smith Charles Hurlbut Tomas Parodi Art Daniels Clade Murray Ray Bischoff and Jim Gleason plan to attend along with Mendocino county Veterans Service Officer Curly Owens. Local junior baseball leaders are urged to attend a no host luncheon and sessions from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday with expansion plans and league organization on the agenda.

Willits Boxers to Host Healdsburg Exibition Saturday

Willits youngsters aged 8 to 13 will box in the Park Pavilion against Healdsburg’s Boys Club led by Al Barbieri. The event, starting at 8 p.m., features nine or more bouts plus two senior exhibition matches with 170 members in the Willits club. Officials include Sheriff Reno Bartolomie, Councilman Ken Jamieson as MC, and Frank Lawrence as referee. Admission 90 cents, proceeds go to the Willits Boys Club.

Ukiah High S Golf Team Schedule Set

Ukiah High School unveils a 11 plus match golf schedule under Coach Bill Tatum starting March 17 with Montgomery at Santa Rosa. The slate includes Healdsburg Invitational, Vallejo and Napa clashes, and Santa Rosa, Napa, Vallejo, and Healdsburg events through May with open dates May 21 and May 26.

Slugger Robinson Wins Reds Contract For 1960

United Press International reports Frank Robinson signed a $27,000 contract for 1960 with the Cincinnati Reds after a standout 1959 season. He batted .311 with 125 RBIs and 36 home runs. Other major signings included Tom Sturdivant with the Boston Red Sox, Carlton Willey with the Milwaukee Braves, and Yankees additions Cletus Boyer John Gabler and Zach Monroe.

Pairings Set For Senior Golf Event
