Hank Injures Hand In TV Middleweight TKO

Chicago report says Henry Hank scored a sixth round TKO over Sixto Rodriguez but left with a fractured right hand. Hank, California state champion and world fourth-ranked light heavyweight, expects 6 to 8 weeks out and seeks another bout in about two months. Hank notched his 29th KO in 52 fights,Rodriguez first stoppage in 29 fights.

Fred Glover Keeps Up His Ice Pace

In New York UPI reports Freddie Glover of the Cleveland Barons extended his late season surge to tie Floyd Smith of the Springfield Indians for the American Hockey League scoring lead. Glover totaled six points in three games to reach 70 on 29 goals and 41 assists. Smith added three points in four games to reach 70 with 25 goals and 45 assists. Rounding out the top five were Bill Sweeney 64, Stan Balaik 61, and Bob Nevin 60.

Prep All-Star grid tilt saved for 1960 season

Ukiah Willits Potter Valley Fort Bragg and other high school football stars are set for the Fifth Annual Redwood Empire All-Star Football Game in Eureka on August 20 under the Redwood Empire Pop Warner League after the Rahmes Redwood Shrine Club terminated its sponsor role. The game returns to a North South format with graduated seniors from the Redwood Empire, coaches chosen, and reporter Hugh Clark cited as instrumental in preserving the event. Players report for practices August 14, with the game likely to return to Redwood Bowl in Arcata in 1961 after a reconstruction project.
