Trustees Accept Yokayo Ranch EIR and Plan Friday Study Session

Mendocino College trustees accepted Earth Metrics EIR for Yokayo Ranch campus and set a 7 p.m. Friday meeting at Ukiah Fairgrounds to review 14 major impact areas and mitigations. Main St extension study okayed by council

The council approved authorization to use state transportation funds for engineering and environmental analysis of extending Main Street from Gobbi Street to Talmage Road. The move would open land behind Yokago shopping center for development and provide a new north south arterial. A proposal to seek proposals for the study passed 3-1 with Brannon dissenting. Mayor Wood expressed mixed feelings about opening the area to development.

Water safety advisory on lower Russian River runoff

North Coast water quality official Dr. David Joseph urged banning water contact recreation in the lower Russian River and monitoring downstream water systems for disinfection due to drought. He cited at least 25 percent treated sewage flow below Mirabel Park and described regulatory dilution conditions between Oct 1 and May 14 under normal weather.

Accusations flare at Marsh hearing in city council chambers

Tempers rose during an eight day hearing before Judge Rudy Michaels as Leo Cook accused Deputy Attorney General Lou Castro of bias while Castro urged revocation of Dr Paul Marshs medical license. The State Board of Medical Quality Assurance ordered the hearing to review 12 counts of incompetence and negligence.

Willits Doctor Fined for Illicit Drug Dispensing

Willits general practitioner Dr. William T. Foster pleaded guilty to seven misdemeanor counts of illegal drug dispensing. He was fined 625 dollars, received a 10 day license suspension and two years formal probation. Foster must weekly file prescriptions with Mendocino County probation and conduct patient examinations prior to prescribing. Dr. Fred M. Myers faces trial March 1 on eight similar counts.

Moonies Challenge Probate Code Sections Before California Supreme Court

Moonie followers in New Ideal City Boonville seek a ruling on temporary conservatorships as unconstitutional. Mendocino DA Duncan James Wies that probate code protects conservatee assets while noting recent court actions involving Moonie camp residents. Anne Glassey withdrew a prior petition for conservatorship hearings in San Diego and Moonie devotee Jamie Weiss remains slated to appear before Judge Broaddus on February 28.
