Plans for Larger Pony and Colt League Play

In Marin county a plan for an enlarged Pony League Sectional and a South Sonoma North Marin Colt League was outlined by sectional director Al Bechtel. The post season would involve 32 Pony League teams from four regions and five Sacramento Leagues, with two sectional playoff spots from Sacramento.

Ukiah Grapplers Tune Up At Lakeport Meet

Ukiah high school wrestlers compete in a Lakeport tuneup featuring top NBL and NCL placers. Ukiah entries include Rick Spagnola 106 lb champion Herb McKenny 115 lb champ Chris Alvarado 148 lb champ and Martin Ancellotti 194 lb runner-up as four Ukiah grapplers join the event ahead of Livermore and Novato qualifiers. Coaches Creed Cook and parent Alvarado attended UC wrestling clinic, then returned inspired for the 1968 season.

Chamberlain Hot In 76ers Victory

Wilt Chamberlain scored 58 points and grabbed 25 rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Cincinnati Royals 131-123, snapping a two game slide. He hit 26 of 34 shots, with 28 points in the first half and 30 in the second half to lead the charge. Jerry Lucas led Royals with 29 points while Oscar Robertson added 23. Zelmo Beaty led the Hawks past the Knicks as St Louis routed New York 139-109.

Patterson stops Johnson in third at Miami Beach bout

Floyd Patterson, the former heavyweight champion, floored Willie Jolson with a left to the head and a right to the jaw at 2 05 of the third round, winning via knockout in a 10 round match in Miami Beach. Huskies and Cougars Top Pac Eight Standings

Washington State beat California 76 62 to move into second place in the Pac Eight behind UCLA. Gordy Martis led Washington with 21 points, while Rich Critchfield poured in 24 for Cal as Don Griffin scored 33 for the Bears. Washington edged Stanford after trailing by eight with 11 minutes left, and Washington State opened the game strong to lead throughout. Other results included Eb Curt Miller scoring 55 in a non league win and a slate of regional scores with Idaho and Whitworth in action.
