Bombs strike Hearst San Simeon cottage in terror plot

A powerful bomb wrecked a guest cottage at William Randolph Hearst’s San Simeon estate causing over 1 million dollars in damage. Fire destroys Philo equipment store in town blaze

Fire roared through the S W Smokey Blatner building in Philo last night. Anderson Valley volunteers fought the flames with four units and 11 men plus two Division of Forestry units. Burning near 7 30 to 8 p m the blaze engulfed the structure and caused total loss with investigation ongoing.

Board split on ballots lawsuit referral in county

Mendocino County supervisors split 3 to 2 on referring Los Angeles County's bid to join a federal suit over the bilingual ballots law. Assistant DA Tim Steen to probe county involvement. one supervisor warned of growing impact while another resisted DA referrals.

Ukiah hosts a two day Mardi Gras celebration at Purdy Hall with bicentennial decor, two bars, dinner at 8, floor show, and dancing by Satch Bianchi orchestra. Western forces abandon southern Angola strongholds

United Press International reports that Western forces evacuated their improvised southern Angola HQ and ceded most ground to Soviet backed troops. The UPI says the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola plans guerrilla strikes for the coming decade after abandoning Serpa Pito, named Thursday as a new base.
