Pro Senior golf showdown set for Ukiah Monday

Bud Sullivan and Ed Joseph headline Ukiah Municipal Golf Course pro senior event. The one day nine and eighteen hole tourney includes top pros and two amateurs per foursome. A lively field expects about 15 pros with no gallery charges for Monday play starting at 9 am. The event aims to showcase local hospitality and competitive golf amid strong community support.

Vera Smalley Reaches 200 Again in Early Loop bowling

United States and Czechoslovakia tie in Olympic hockey

Los Angeles United States and Czechoslovakia played to a 5 5 tie at the Sports Arena before 9229 fans. The Americans had rallied in the final four minutes, after beating the Czechs Tuesday night. The series now stands 11 4 3 in the U S favor with a rematch set for February 18 at Squaw Valley alongside Russia and Canada in the Olympic field.

A crowded league night saw multiple top scores as Fogzy’s and Grieb's groups led early with strong shows. Joe Center posted a near triple, Paladini hit 205, and Emmerson logged a .234 game in a 542 series. Deschamps and Hess also posted solid totals in a night of tight competition.

United Press International reports Wilt Chamberlain suffered a facial injury after being struck in the mouth by a New York Knicks forward during the Golden State Warriors 125-117 loss at Madison Square Garden. He left the game after scoring five points in the first period and was expected to be evaluated by doctors. In other NBA action, Larry Costello’s last-second shot capped Syracuse Nationals' 110-109 comeback over the Minneapolis Lakers as Tom Heinsohn and Bill Sharman led the Celtics to a 112-100 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Four Shutouts And Four 600 Series Monday

In Yokayo Bowl Monday night action six matches were played in the p.m. Men’s league with four ending in whitewash scores. Four 600 series were recorded led by Joe Paladini’s 640 anchor for Ukiah Liquor and a 626 by the Creamery as Bill Lambing hit 177, 214, 235. Reed added a 573 for the Creamery, Samoa Club claimed a series, and Moschetti Motors surged with a 290 final game from Rick Phelps in a 562 series. Redwood Tree swept Red wood Service 4-0 behind Bill Schmitz’s 199-213 start and a 594 series from the team. Gowan and Friesen led other high marks, with multiple 188-193 scores, while 3-A Market blanked Lido despite D Canclini’s 577 triple. Giants of the evening included Ed Rad cliff 196-525 and Paladini’s 204-203-233 for the winners, yielding a 640.

Cuban welterweight Rodriguez from Camaguey thrilled a national TV audience by stopping Carl Hubbard of Philadelphia in the fourth round.
