More than 400 elite skiers and skaters watched the after-effects of a near flood and a blizzard at Squaw Valley California site of the 1960 Winter Games. Parking lot flooding and damage to lower downhill course at the foot of Squaw Peak were noted but officials hoped conditions would improve as the storm abated. Clarence Williams Scores Knockout Win in Oakland
Clarence Williams halted Andy Isaac in the fifth round of a 10 round heavyweight bout at Oakland Auditorium. Williams weighed 202 pounds to Isaac's 184 pounds as referee Frankie Carter stopped the fight after Isaac was exhausted against the ropes. Isaac was a substitute for Charley Powell who pulled out with flu.

Vada Pinson, a 2 year rookie from Murfreesboro Tennessee, signed a two year contract for 16 000 per season. He batted .316 with 20 home runs 84 runs and set team marks including 131 runs 47 doubles and all stolen bases. The NL Rookie of the Year went to Willie McCovey for 1960.
