Point Arena Air Five Winner of Cage Play

Point Arena Air Force Station won the 28th Air Division basketball tournament at Hamilton Air Force Race from January 22 to 25. The Rattlers won five straight games after an opening loss to claim the championship and returned with a large bronzed trophy. Five players earned AC&W All Star honors for further tournament play. With two trophies in the last three years, Point Arena Rattlers earn a permanent claim if they win next year’s event.

Mountaineers win thanks to Sharrar in key comeback

West Virginia overcame a 40-38 halftime deficit against St Johns as Lloyd Sharrar erupted for seven second-half baskets to seal an 87-78 victory. Sharrar, 6-10 from Meadville, Pa., scored 15 and was praised by St Johns coach Joe Lapchick as a pressure performer. St Johns guard Alan Seiden led all scorers with 30.
