North Ukiah Little League Elects New Officers

Kurt Schmitz was elected president of North Ukiah Little League at a well attended meeting. Officers include Bill Carpenter as vice president and Mildred Gordon as secretary and Pat Carpenter as treasurer, with Gerald Estes and Earle Conner as player agents. A Feb 15 meeting at the Ukiah Police Station was announced.

Rare Penalty Shot Ruins Seals Loss to Los Angeles Blades

In the Western Hockey League, the Los Angeles Blades defeated the San Francisco Seals 4 3 after a late penalty shot by Len Haley of the Seals. Nick Mickoski tied the game, Terry Slater scored for the Blades, and crowd sizes reached 12 274 in Los Angeles. The victory put the Blades 5 1 in the season series and six points ahead of the Seals in the division with Calgary at Edmonton and Portland at Vancouver on tap.

Ukiah Yo-Yo Contest Set for Pomolita Playground Tomorrow

Ukiah’s fifth to eighth graders will compete in a city wide Yo-Yo contest at Pomolita playground at 1 pm with two championship plaques for best girl and boy. Judges include Ukiah High School staff and city recreation leaders. A world record loop the loop challenge may be used to break ties.

Palm Springs based UPI reports Tom Harmon recalls the 1940 Michigan California game when a fan jumped from the stands and attempted to tackle him. Harmon, now CBS Western sports director, notes the incident remains his most remembered. He remembers Bud Brennan, the fan, who still sends cards to Harmon.
