Dr. John O. Raffety reports 1955 hospital activity: 1674 patients seen 5294 visits, 1039 bed admissions yielding 211952 patient days. Outpatient clinic visits 4255, births 147, deaths 48, major surgeries 94, minor surgeries 142. Average daily patients 59.39 and monthly births 12.
Gary Lovell 14, living with grandmother Mary Robinson at 345 North Main street, escaped with minor injuries after his bicycle hit a half-open car door owned by C H McKinna of Regina Heights. The incident occurred near Mendocing Motor Sales on South State street at 9 o'clock. An examination at Mendocing Medical Center showed no fractured collarbone. Lovell noted the same shoulder had broken twice previously.
Mendocino County Hospital fees collected for patients over seven months average above 1400 monthly, totaling over 9992. Figures released by J C Boger show July 395 August 806 September 1018 October 1217 November 1705 December 2355 and January 2496, indicating rising monthly revenue. Sacramento officials report Mendocino County will receive 41415.03 dollars from the January highway users tax apportionment totaling 5.66 million dollars. Lake and Sonoma counties receive 21210 and 457939 dollars respectively with a December apportionment 1.86 million below November but 2.08 million above last year.
The sheriff's department reports thieves broke the front window of the Talmage Store between 7 p.m. yesterday and 7:30 a.m. today and stole four half-gallons and three fifths of wine.
The Ukiah City Council approved hiring two part-time officers to boost patrols and curb rising juvenile crime. Chief George Smith said relief officers will cover day offs and night shifts, keeping two officers on duty across about 100 miles of streets. John Quinn and Do A Lindburgh named as hires. full-time vacancy remains. An exam is set for Feb 15 at 7 p.m. and the salary range is 314 to 364.
City Clerk Jim Turner noted previous gasoline tax refunds of 6000 and 2000 cited by City Engineer Douglas Cruickshank and warned the 1952 population figure of 8267 is far too low. He told the council the city remains short on state allocations without a new census and the body passed a resolution to initiate a special census at the earliest date.
Northwestern Pacific Railroad will reopen the Eureka to San Rafael line tomorrow after Christmas flood damage. Vice President George L. Morrison said two diesel trains will haul lumber and freight from Eureka with more trains expected Monday, aiming to reach 60 percent of normal freight by Thursday, but no passenger service will resume in the near term.
January predatory hunt results list multiple local hunters and their catches. P. Koski secured seven bobcats and a coyote, L. A. Conner took a bear three coyotes and two bobcats, E. The district attorney's office dismissed the overload case against Ukiah trucker Robert C. Young due to insufficient evidence. A jury had been summoned in Judge Fred Goss' court after Young was cited December 16 by the California Highway Patrol for an overload of logs.
Sheriff investigated the accidental shooting of seven year old Jack Edward Chapman of Four Corners. Several people were brought to Ukiah for inquiry. no charges filed as investigation concludes. The Conner boys handled the rifle that had been loaned to Mrs Chapman to shoot a cougar.
Ukiah High School elected senior Dick Buxton as student body president after runoffs following a first ballot that failed to yield a majority. Senior Tom Duncan won the vice presidency. other officers include Jean DBookout secretary and Janis Musser financial manager, with extensive candidate turnout.
Fred D. Collins, a longtime Willits insurance man and former city clerk, was named county veterans service officer for the Willits area by the board of supervisors yesterday. He will fill the part time post formerly held by Judge Fred Foord who resigned last month after ten years in the job.

In boxing Carl Bobo Olson is the favorite to challenge Sugar Ray Robinson in Los Angeles on April 27.
Mendocino County Board of Supervisors cited cooperation from Covelo area logging firms as they halted a weight load limit ordinance. Chairman Paul Poulos said the board and road commissioner met with logging officials and reached a gentleman's agreement to repair the Covelo Road and keep crews ready despite dry weather.

Flood damage in the county leads the Red Cross to postpone its annual fund drive. The Ukiah area campaign will be rescheduled from March to June with William Cherry as acting chairman. Mrs. Nellie Corbett attends from Willits to coordinate northern county units.
A Calpella elementary school meeting Monday night at 8 will set the date for a 150000 bond election for the Calpella County Sewer and Water District. Al Hines chairs the trustees with George Donaldson Don Loughlin Warren Lindbergh and Lewis Ipsen. The district formed in November will obtain water from Reeves Canyon and fund a sewage plant and pipe lines.
Police chief says two suspects will be arrested for the Park N Takit burglary at 760 South State Street after a morning patrol spotted a broken window and a pursued car in an orchard. Investigators linked the break in to other weekend crimes including Vicks Bar on East Perkins Street and several fuel and liquor store robberies.
Miss Betty Lewis, Red Cross emergency relief representative, urges no more applications after Monday February 6. In Ukiah 50 families applied. 38 cases closed, leaving 12 to process. Relief total reached 6055.77 with 838.70 donated countywide. funds spent on food and utilities 3584.07, furniture 1987.90, medical care 210.75, telegraphs 170.51, repairs 71.84, supplies 30.70.
