Mendocino County Hospital chief faces resignation

Ed Hill the Mendocino County Hospital administrator faced a hostile board session culminating in a 2 2 vote to dismiss him by February 1 1965. Floyd Lawrence was named acting administrator. The board cited delinquent accounts and irregular records amid a broader audit and accounting concerns raised by previous grand jury reviews and a $750 study. Hill had been absent due to a minor operation.

Grounded flights halt as northern weather worsens

Snow rain and fog halted mercy flights to the stricken north. Ukiah and surrounding areas endured record rainfall, flooded streets, and road closures. Weather kept helicopters and planes grounded. highways opened only to light traffic with chains advised for some routes. Continuous downpours increased flood risks as officials assessed damage and searched for relief.

Living Costs Rise in November Across Nation

Washington report shows the consumer price index up two tenths of a percent in November marking the eighth increase in eleven months. Housing, rents, and home ownership costs rose along with both new and used car prices while take home pay reportedly declined slightly.

Santa in a helicopter brings cheer to Dos Rios

Christmas came to Dos Rios on the Eel River when three U S Army members rode in as Santa. Captain Anderson piloted the helicopter delivering gifts and greetings while a postmaster and a dachshund stayed behind. A side mission sought to airlift an ill elder to a hospital but she refused to leave home.

Steel Strike Threat Warned By Union Over Prices

A government official warned that a steelworkers strike could raise prices and damage the U S economy. A Michigan State University professor cited the risk of a creeping price spiral if inflation pressures mount.

Herringbone On Channel 4 Laid to CHP

Bob Beck of Custom TV with the Television Improvement Association says California Highway Patrol transmission causes the herringbone pattern on Channel 4. He notes workers were stranded in snow reaching the translator on Cow Mountain and another attempt will be made when weather improves. A trap installation should reduce interference. Channel 4 will carry parades and bowl games New Year’s Day. TIA will boost Channel 7 power soon.

Showers with snow at low levels through Thursday across Northwestern California. High today and low tonight forecast for Ukiah 48 and 33, Santa Rosa 52 and 33, Napa 50 and 34. South winds bring small craft advisories on the coast north of Pt. Reyes with gusts to 35 knots at times.

Mien Stranded on Burning Building Saved by Copter

Two laborers trapped on a burning New York roof were rescued by National Guard pilot Paul Humphries flying a single rotor helicopter from Governors Island. The roof collapsed seconds after the hover, as Humphries pulled both men to safety and they were treated for smoke inhalation.

Indictment Against Klanners Dismissed in Georgia

In Macon Georgia UPI reports six Ku Klux Klansmen facing charges of conspiring to deprive Negroes of civil rights had their federal indictment dismissed by Judge W A Bootle. The case stemmed from the July 1964 killing of Lemuel Penn in Washington DC and alleged plans to injure threaten and intimidate unnamed Negroes.

Crash on 101 Injures Four

Four people injured in a two car crash on snow covered Highway 101 one mile south of Willits. Drivers Hugh Bates and Martin Oakley plus Steve Schumaker were hospitalized with major injuries. Richard Erickson kept for treatment by his own physician. Patrol says Bates vehicle apparently traveled too fast for slush.
