Administration Ends REAP and Water Bank Programs
Washington reports the administration wiped out the Rural Environmental Assistance Program and the Water Bank Program in a broad economy move. For 1973 Congress authorized 235.5 million dollars for both programs, with REAP at 225.5 million and the Water Bank at 10 million. The Agriculture Department planned to use only 150 million, but final action halted the programs.

Christmas Holiday Safety Report From CHP Ukiah
Capt. Hays Hickey of the California Highway Patrol in Ukiah says this Christmas holiday was one of the safest on record with six accidents in Mendocino County compared to 13 in 1971. Statewide 42 deaths tied for the lowest since 1960, and ten drinking drivers were arrested as the patrol notes saner driving and seat belt use. For New Year’s, Hickey warns patrols will target drinkers, urging motorists to buckle up and avoid driving after drinking.
