William Hein dies at 64 rites Thursday
William F Hein 64 of 46 Lorraine Street died Monday in a Ukiah hospital after a three day stay. Funeral services set for Thursday at 1 pm at Eversole Mortuary with Pastor J Wyland Wood officiating. He was a carpenter, Seventh day Adventist, and former Carpenters Union agent on KUKI Road. Survived by wife Petri Hein, children Betty Hills Kinois Emma Heinrichs Franklin Hein Dale Myrna Hein Verna Langley Eddie Mull Bartley Mull, his mother Mrs Vola Hein, a sister Mildred Louderback, and 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also noted five living generations previously.

Design hearing on Willits interchange
District Engineer H G Larsen announces a public hearing by the Division of Highways on a proposed revision of the North Willits interchange. The meeting will be Feb 2, 1971 at Willits High School auditorium. The plan relocates the interchange about a half mile north to Reynolds Highway to improve drainage, bridge foundations, and traffic circulation. Right of way and construction schedules will be discussed, with relocation assistance explained. Maps available at the Eureka office.

Fresno city manager Neil Goedhard dies at 45
Neil Goedhard chief administrative officer for the City of Fresno died Monday of an apparent heart attack at age 45. He had become Fresno city manager in 1968 after earlier serving Covona City. Ukiah City Manager Lyell Cash, a longtime friend, mourned the loss as Fresno Mayor Ted C. Wills called it unbelievable.

Ukiah Police Nab Three Drunk Drivers in Busy Night
A Monday in Ukiah saw three arrests for drunken driving after separate incidents. A crosswalk crash injured 12 year old Norman Phillips and 13 year old Doug Mark Coons. Driver Melvin Cooper, 41, was jailed for felony drunk driving after an alcohol test. He later escaped a hospital room but was recaptured and jailed. Other arrests included Fred Peterson, 52, and Jefferson D. Lamoree, 26, in non injury and mid city incidents respectively.

Ballard Ukiah Brown, a West Virginia native who lived in Ukiah for over 40 years, died at a local hospital Monday at age 97. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Zimmerman Mortuary, with burial in Ukiah Cemetery. He is survived by a son, Burton Brown of Hayward, and services will be conducted by Rev. Richard Taylor of Ukiah First Baptist Church.
