Ukiah council grants new three year Ukiah Solid Waste franchise
In Ukiah city council chambers on Wednesday night Ukiah Solid Waste led by Phil Ward won a new three year extension of a modified franchise agreement, effective next year, over Modern Disposal Service which failed to secure the bid. The council also delayed the new $2 per cubic yard rate for compacted materials until Jan. 1 after a two week postponement.

Ukiah linebacker Cory Elmore received a $1000 National Football Foundation Hall of Fame scholarship at a San Francisco dinner. John Brodie presented the award as Elmore, noted for 26 solo and 177 assist tackles, plans for college, possibly at College of the Redwoods. Also honored were John Lockett of Clear Lake and Martin Capron of Soquel. Capron was hospitalized with a nervous disorder.
