DA enters slander suit against Planning Commission chair
The district attorney was ordered to file a $100000 slander lawsuit against Planning Commission Chairman Barney Rowland in defense of Rowland. The action followed a 10 minute executive session with the board of supervisors. Drs. Sidney Maurer and William Waring filed the suit last month after Rowland was quoted saying the two physicians lied to the commission about delays in a permanent Pomo Clinic structure in Calpella. An extension for two trailers was requested, the third since the original use permit. James said the office must file an answer by December 28 in Superior Court. Rowland will be represented by his own attorney along with the DA. Supervisor Harvey Sawyers, who appointed Rowland, defended the move saying the county must back elected appointees.
