Ukiah High School defeated Clear Lake in rugged clashes with Varsity 51 20 and Jayvee 35 22 as coach Ed Jacobsen noted heavy weight class rallies and promising practice matchups for upcoming contests. Lakeport grapplers showed strength and drew tight officiating.
Ukiah wrestled Vallejo and prep for two upcoming NBL duels at Vallejo and Sonoma. In a tight Varsity contest Ukiah led 23-20 after key wins by Alvarado, Rosen, Engebritson, and Leland before forfeits and strong finishes sealed a 31-20 victory. Jayvee results featured Henderson and Woodward with multiple Ukiah pins.
Ukiah High School clinched third place at the 1967 Healdsburg Invitational Tourney without scoring a basket in the third place game. Santa Rosa beat Arcata 59-52 for the title, while Sonoma defeated Cardinal Newman 53-47 for consolation. Ron Hunt earned All-Tournament honors as Ukiah prepared for Fort Bragg and upcoming holiday events.
Ukiah Potter Valley and Willits gridders shared in post season honors at Napa JC awards night. Steve Short from Willits won Most Improved and All-Conference honors. Fred Austin of Potter Valley earned All-Conference status and joined the 500 club while receiving Most Inspirational Player. Lowell Leland of Ukiah named Most Valuable Lineman. Dana Schulz of Napa JC earned the 500 Club recognition. Butch Thompson was Most Outstanding Back. Additional awards went to Paul Schmitz Bob Jackson Lew Brown and Chris Burris among others.

Ukiah star Chris Alvarado and Point Arena’s Steve Campbell will represent Mendocino County at the Northern California Football Hall of Fame banquet at the Jack Tar Hotel in San Francisco. Both are top athletes in football and wrestling with strong scholastic records and will be honored alongside 22 other notable Northern California players. One thousand dollar scholarships await two banquet honorees as part of the event.
San Francisco coach Jack Christiansen indicated George Mira will open at quarterback Saturday when the 49ers host Dallas. Mira, who has started four times in his career, threw for 324 yards in a 34-28 win over Atlanta and is competing with John Brodie and Steve Spurrier for the 1968 starter role.
