Sacramento Debates Deer Control Plans At Senate Hearing

Sacramento lawmakers convened to review multiple deer management plans from Texas Masonite Valley and Shannon proposals. Baker Named NCAA Offense Champion for 1962

New York UPI reports Terry Baker of Oregon State was named official NCAA total offense champion for 1962. The 191 pound quarterback amassed 1 738 passing yards and 938 rushing yards for a total of 2 676 yards, second only to Johnny L. who totaled 2 400 yards in 1950. Baker earned a spot on the United Press International All America team and captured the Heisman and Maxwell trophies as the outstanding college player of the year.

Aguirre Tops American League Pitchers For 1962

Hank Aguirre of the Detroit Tigers was named the AL’s outstanding pitcher for 1962 after posting a 2.21 ERA and 11 of 22 starts completed. He led the league with a 6 7 percent win rate, while Ray Herbert and Dick Donovan also posted 20-win seasons. Ralph Terry led the Yankees with 23 wins.

Oregon's Terry Baker Named UPI Back of the Year

Terry Baker of Oregon, 21, left handed quarterback, was chosen as the 1962 UPI Back of the Year in nationwide voting by sports writers and broadcasters. He led the nation in total offense with 2,276 yards and passed for 1,738 yards, guiding Oregon to an 8-2 record and a Liberty Bowl bid. Baker, a mechanical engineering student, plans a pro football career and was drafted No. 1 by the Los Angeles Rams.

Peter Alliss captain of the British PGA team rejects Arnold Palmer’s claim that most British golfers are lazy. Ukiah High School Coop Basketball Opens Season

Twelve teams took the floor in the Ukiah High School cooperative league with games featuring the Clods Sting-Rays Musketeers and Falcons. Meld goals led the Bustmen to a win over the Weasels as Jerry Drake poured in 28 for the Musketeers and Jim Carr scored five for the Lakers.
