Opening Night Boonville Invitational Show Delights

Lakeport’s Can dials and Lick Wilmerding put on a competitive opener as Don Lyons of California School for the Deaf dazzled on opening night. Anderson Valley, defending Trinity’s lead, won a second game to highlight day one while Trinity and Lakeport gave early signs in the Boonville Invitational. Lyons’ two performances, plus Lakeport’s close loss to the Cardinals, framed a night of strong showings and team hopes for the weekend.

Tresh Named 1962 Rookie of the Year for Yankees

Kilmer's Future in Doubt After Injury

San Francisco Forty Niner Billy Kilmer remained in doubt about his football future after a four hour operation to repair a compound fracture of the right ankle and facial injuries. Kilmer, injured when his car left Bayshore Highway, is reported in generally good condition but the team doctor declined to forecast next season. Kilmer, once a quarterback, has become a versatile halfback admired by fans for his running and passing abilities.

Ken Hubbs Wins NL Rookie of the Year honor

Chicago Cubs second baseman Ken Hubbs captured the National League Rookie of the Year award in a near-unanimous vote from the Baseball Writers Association of America. Hubbs, a 22-year-old with a .260 average in 160 games, set five fielding records in 1962 and helped the ninth-place Cubs by providing a strong defensive presence. Dann Clendenon of the Pirates received the remaining vote.
