California coastal plan unveiled by commission
The Coastal Zone Conservation Commission released a 443 page plan to preserve California s 1072 mile coastline by limiting wall to wall development. It calls for 180 million in coastal acquisitions funded by a statewide bond next year and proposes higher boat registration fees a coastal hotel motel tax and revenues from offshore oil. If enacted the plan would curb dredging fill of wetlands and require permits to sell parcels along the coast.

Kilauea eruptions ease as aftershocks persist
