Ukiah Faces 15 Percent PG&E Power Rate Increase

City of Ukiah must absorb a 15 percent wholesale power raise from PG&E totaling $129000 more for the city’s electric customers. The Federal Power Commission authorized the hike effective Aug 24 with a public hearing set for Jan 21 1975 in Washington DC. The city may seek delays or reductions via the FPC while reviewing budget impacts and alternative cuts. County budget also set at 24 million with a 3.37 tax rate.

Carrier Collects Dues Urges Payment in Advance

A Ukiah Daily report notes the carrier collects today and asks for timely payment. He requests payment for motor routes three months in advance to ensure continued service.

Schlienger welcomed to Ukiah by chamber luncheon

Max P. Schlienger president of Retech Inc and his wife Joan acquire Al Thrasher Corporation assets and are welcomed to Ukiah at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Thrasher, famed lumberman and inventor, retires to Seattle. Schlienger outlines plans for titanium and exotic metal production with near emission free equipment.

Lone Eagle Lindbergh dies of cancer in Maui burial

Pioneer aviator Charles A Lindbergh, aged 72, died Monday at a beachfront Maui cottage after treatment for a malignant lymphatic tumor. He was buried in Kipahulu in a simple coffin, with wife Anne and son Land present. President Ford and Sen. Humphrey honored him as a hero and pioneer of the air age.

Texas farmhouse siege ends with capture of escaped convicts

In a four day 1000 mile spree across three states, three inmates escaped from Canon City prison and terrorized rural areas. Police killed one suspect, wounded another, and captured the third at a Texas farmhouse after a dawn news conference. The group planned to flee to Mexico as mercenary soldiers.
