Nixon impeachment report seals House action deadlines

The House Judiciary Committee released a 525 page final report declaring Nixon should have been impeached had he not resign. It accuses Nixon of lying, violating laws, and subverting the Constitution with strong views from members supporting impeachment. Economist predicts at least year and a half of recession

A University of Pennsylvania economist told the Senate Budget Committee that the United States faces prolonged recession, inflation, and unemployment no matter what actions Congress takes. F Gerald Adams warned a $10 billion federal cut would not avert slow growth and would raise unemployment while modestly lowering inflation.

California Senate drafts plan to revamp Justice Court system

Sacramento A Senate Judiciary Committee rushed AB2260 style reforms after a Supreme Court ruling. It would add 22 circuit Justice Court judges and convert 30 part time lawyers to full time, at an annual cost of 1.6 million dollars. The move aims to reduce criminal case backlog as 127 lay judges now serve without attorney status. Six Mendocino County courts are chaired by non lawyers, while three are by lawyer judges.

Drought Boosts 1974 Food Price Outlook

Washington consumers face a 4 to 5 percent rise in retail food prices in late 1974 as drought undermines harvests. The Agriculture Department, in a Food Situation summary, says all 1974 prices may average about 15 percent above 1973, up from a 12 percent forecast, marking the largest yearly gain in 28 years.
