Sacramento UPI The California Senate blocked the Assembly passed AB3370 ending any chance this year for landmark farm labor reform. The 16 to 19 vote stopped a last minute bid to waive rules and hear the measure in Industrial Relations. Cesar Chavez's United Farm Workers backed the bill which would have allowed secret ballot elections for farm workers and overseen farm labor relations. Opponents led by growers and the Teamsters argued the bill would not solve field labor issues and risked unwanted marches and boycotts. Senator Clare Berryhill accused late legislative maneuvering and vowed to use legal means to block the measure. Senate President Mills criticized the Assembly for delaying action.
