Ukiah's Dolphins returned from Marin with eight A time medals and 15 ribbons led by Susan Angell and Nancy Maghetti in 8-unders and 13-14 girls. The team eyes a tough inter-league clash against Santa Rosa’s Sting Rays Thursday at 6 11 at the Swim Center as the regular season nears its climax.

724 Pound Marlin Lands In Hawaiin Tourney Lead

The Southern California Sportsmen's club led after two days of the Hawaiian International Billfish tournament in Kona Hawaii. Joe Foley of the San Francisco team landed the tournament's largest fish a 724 pound marlin on Tuesday. Kenneth Brown of Honolulu caught a 658 pound marlin, boosting leaders to 1 100 points while San Francisco posted 824 and Kawaihae Trolling Club 658.

Redwood Empire Fair opens with racing and horse shows

The Northern California Racing Association plans a Thursday night program of weekly super modified stocker and claimer races at 8 p.m. with 7 p.m. trials as opening night for the Redwood Empire Fair at the 12th District Fairgrounds. Foster Wins In Controversial KO Stop In Fresno

Mac Foster, 209 pounds, remains unbeaten with his 19th straight knockout as the Fresno heavyweight defeats Roger Russell 190 of Philadelphia in a bout halted at 2 39 of the third round amid claims of a low blow. Russell sat on the ropes afterward claiming foul, while Foster and officials contended the finish was fair. Foster, eighth nationally, said he landed a solid shot and believed he hurt Russell.
