Mendocino Supervisors OK Budget With Tax Reduction Hopes
Mendocino County Supervisors approved a 1968-69 budget of 11,993,684, a modest 3.3 percent increase from 1967-68. County taxpayers still hope for a reduction from the $3.61 tax rate, aided by cuts after two weeks of budget hearings and reorganizations led by County Administrator Al Beltrami. The current figure trims $383,964 from the preliminary budget and $427,106 from initial department requests, with the tax rate history tracing back to 1960-61 trends toward possible relief. Rate of Gain Sale at Pavilion of Champions Saturday
The Rate of Gain sale features judging live in the ring and post mortem carcass evaluation. Young bidders are limited to 5 cents per pound of actual market price. Organizers criticise typical sales as giveaways and publicity-driven losses. Originating 1962 at Cal Poly, the program trains youths to raise efficient, cost-conscious animals. Participants use local calves and lambs, weaning them then wintering before a 130 day feeding and record-keeping phase.
