Fair Queen crowned at Empire Fair in Ukiah
Alice Bergman, 18, Ukiah High School graduate, was crowned Empire Fair Queen after a field of eight contestants. First runner up was Kimberley Phillips and second runner up Phyllis Mitchell. Miss Pitman won Miss Congeniality. The queen, sponsored by the Firefighters Assn, plans college study in social work. Weekend fair activities include NCAA racing, barrel racing, concerts, stage shows, and a Sunday senior citizen day with free gate entry.

Ukiah officials held a public hearing on the revised Ukiah General Plan, sending three changes back to the planning commission for refinement. The edits address open space definitions, the southward reach of light commercial office zoning on Dora to Beacon Way, and the plan’s southern boundary within its sphere of influence.
