Pony League All Stars Open Play at Anton Stadium

The Pony League sectional championship opens with Akian's 15 man team facing Redling-Anderson in the second game with Ukiah taking on the Anderson club after Lake County hosts Sebastopol in the opening 6 p.m. contest. Coaches Hayes and Walsh expect peak efforts from Ukiah as they duel top hurlers from Anderson led by Greg Smith and supported by Ron Webb Bill Farrel Del Rush. The double elimination format runs to Friday night with possible Saturday games.

Twilight Golf Play Wednesdays at Ukiah Course

Twelve five man teams compete in the second annual dusk league at Ukiah Municipal Golf Course with six weeks of play. Defending champ Moschetti brothers are out. runner up Merk Eiedrons returns. Teams include Samoa Club Anton's Gassers Albertson Insurance Big Oaks Munnell Sherrill and Buxton Insurance Polar Cubs Pioneer Company Merk's Fleetrons Masonite Daily Journal and a to be decided club. Each night starts at 6 p.m. and includes a post round dinner.

Bill Mauncey wins the 34th hydro plane classic aboard Miss Century 21 after leading the field for 90 miles. In the final heat his speed averaged 93.614 mph, slower than his earlier marks of 101 mph. Bakersfield Area to Host New Ice Hockey Team

Bakersfield will form an ice hockey team to join a California League and play a 21 game home slate at a 2500 seat ORM Auditorium. Collin Kilburn and Ken Edwards will co run the operation with Leng ith and Los Angeles as league peers. Ebbetts Pass in Alpine County dates back to 1834 for John Ebbetts and his mule crossing in April 1851.

Liston Chooses Aurora Downs As Camp For Patterson Fight

Morabito Recovering From Chest Pains at San Francisco Hospital

Vic Morabito president of the San Francisco Forty Niners is reported doing well at St Marys Hospital where he is recovering from chest pains. He was admitted July 30 for investigation of a possible heat condition and doctors say nothing serious is involved with a expected four to five day release.
