In a guarded room near the White House two clear plastic drums hold 366 yellow date capsules and brown number capsules for the 1972 draft lottery. Six youth advisers will draw date and number pairs to determine draft status for all men born in 1952.

Willows rites Thursday for Dale Flynton
Services for Dale S Flynton of Calpella who died Monday in a Ukiah hospital will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Sweet and Son Chapel in Willows. Burial will be in Willows Cemetery. Mr Flynton had lived in Calpella seven years and in Mendocino County 25 years. He worked for Al Thrasher Lumber Company and had resided in Willows before moving there. Survived by wife Blossom Calpella three sons Dean and Bruce both of Calpella and Loyal of Concord a sister Ruth Moran of San Antonio three brothers Dean Bruce and Everett all in Texas and three grandchildren.

Anna Mazzanti Rites Friday At Catholic Cemetery
Graveside funeral services for 86 year old Anna Mazzanti of Ukiah will be held Friday at 3 p.m. in the Catholic Cemetery. She died this morning after a long illness. Born in Italy she lived in the area for years. Survived by three sons George Louie of Reno Nevada and Richard of Ukiah. Fr. Roger Lamoureux will officiate.

Chargers release Mercer and two others in cuts

Car Crash Near Ridgewood Ranch Injures Three

Local Reserve unit heads to Fort Ord for summer training
Five companies of the Third Battalion, 362 Regiment, Second Brigade of the 91st Division Army Reserve, totaling 120 officers and men, depart for Fort Ord early Saturday for two weeks of annual summer training. Commanded by Maj. Norman Soeth and drawn from Mendocino and Lake Counties, the unit will conduct basic combat training for recruits under the Volunteer Army concept. Training runs until August 21.

Pancake breakfast draws large Jaycee crowd in Lakeport
Jaycees pancake breakfast at Library Park Lakeport drew over 500 people, far surpassing the 350 batter plan. Allen Griggs, Lakeport councilman and breakfast chair, said the sixth- to seventh- hour queue began at 7:30, ending by 10:30 with only coffee and cleanup left. This fourth annual event marked the largest turnout yet. Griggs joked batter may have attracted the extra crowd.
