County supervisors cut about 3.9 million from the proposed 1974 75 budget. The roads budget was slashed by 3.5 million after extended deadlines for storm damage work, with key work moved to 1975 76. Mental health and other divisions also faced reductions, while overtime, railings, and equipment procurement were debated.
County planning commissioners unanimously denied a use permit for a 10 bed recovery home for male alcoholics on Sanford Ranch Road after a heated public hearing. Opponents argued disruptive behavior, noise, and safety concerns. proponents cited a structured, supervised program with professional staff and volunteers to aid reintegration.
The Communication Workers of America authorized a walkout by about 750,000 operators, repairmen and installers nationwide at 9 01 p m Pacific time on Sunday Aug 4. Local 9420 in Ukiah led by Bob Milender cites wage and benefit disputes with AT T Bell System including pension, dental, and cost of living adjustments plus changes to tours of duty.
