Russians defeat United States in dual track meet

In Kiev the Soviet track team, led by coach Korobkov, upset the United States 318 to 112 to end seven years of U S defeats. Pyotr Bolotnikov beat Bob Schul in the 5000 meters as the Russians swept upsets and gained decisive depth over the Americans, who won only five of 11 events. The Russian women also won 63 to 43.
