A 2 400 acre brush and timber fire east of St Helena was sparked by a car repair explosion. Fire officials said the blaze was 100 percent contained early today after 600 firefighters fought it since the weekend. Control expected by about 6 p m unless winds cause danger.
Rep Thomas Ashley leads House Ad Hoc Energy Committee as it starts general debate on President Carter's energy package. Five committees revised the 113 items before floor consideration with amendments to follow on Tuesday.
A coalition of Ukiah groups seeks approval at tomorrow's Ukiah Unified board meeting to use part of Yokayo School for a large cultural recreation center. Architect Bob Axt envisions a 1200 to 1500 seat performing arts auditorium, meeting rooms, studios, workshops, and a gym with handball courts.
Oklahoma records peak at 111 degrees Sunday with 109 the day before marking the hottest in the valley this year and since 1972. San Francisco hits 81, Needles Las Vegas reach 115, Phoenix 110, with 64 degree lows in Ukiah and a hot five day forecast for northwestern California.

Retail sales earnings rose from 1965 to 1976 while assessed value and building permits surged. Vehicle registrations and agricultural and timber sectors also show substantial gains since 1972.
