Mendocino tops in Social Service audit
Mendocino County Social Service Department led a state audit by the State Department of Benefit Payments for the 27 month period Jan 1 1973 to Mar 31 1975 with only a $520 discrepancy in a $3.5 million admin budget. Director Dennis Denny called the result the best in the state for budget to discrepancy ratio. The $520 was a humorous misplacement after the county sold a car and placed the funds in the county trust fund. The board heard that AFDC caseloads were stable with minor February to March shifts, while Medi Cal clients and food stamp participation rose, totaling 4668 as of March 31, below last year’s 6109. Denny noted more transfers from other counties and a higher unemployment rate among food stamp recipients, and warned that proposed federal food stamp reforms may raise admin costs.
