Hospitals oppose 9 percent annual cost increase ceiling

The American Hospital Association said doctors and hospitals will unite to oppose the proposed 9 percent yearly cap on hospital cost increases. AHA President J Alexander McMahon urged Congress to examine why hospital costs rise and accused HEW Secretary Califano of using scare tactics.

Carter Hussein talks dampen Geneva peace talks delay

President Carter after meeting King Hussein of Jordan said there is no point in holding a Geneva peace conference this year without substantial progress. He said PLO participation and delegation composition must be worked out, urging earlier agreements to reduce future bargaining disputes.

Coast Guard Rescues Golden Chalice After Explosion

The Golden Chalice homeported at Noyo was towed by Coast Guard Cutter Ledge after an explosion and fire disabled the vessel four miles west of Ten Mile Beach. Ledge received a distress call at 4 05 a m and returned to Noyo with the damaged craft.

Mendocino County Extends Animal Control Patrol Hours

Mendocino County's five animal control officers will shift from eight to five, to an irregular eight hour patrol schedule over several months. Officers will sweep Fort Bragg Point Arena Ukiah and Willits once or twice weekly to curb roaming dogs. Impounded animals may receive citations and residents are urged to contact Ukiah or Fort Bragg shelters if dogs do not return.

GM to swap 1977 cars with Chevrolet engines for 128000 owners

General Motors will offer 128000 owners of 1977 Oldsmobiles Pontiacs and Buicks with Chevrolet V8 engines a car swap or a three year 36000 mile insurance policy covering repairs. The move accompanies ongoing lawsuits and includes credits toward purchases with deductions for miles used.

California Assembly advances major property tax relief bill

The Assembly cleared its first test on AB999 after a last minute rewrite dropping local income tax provisions. The plan offers 712 million dollars in immediate property tax relief for homeowners and renters plus 395 million dollars in higher state income taxes on the wealthy, with 78 million for inflation indexing. Loggers plan convoy to nation's capital

David Snodderly of Associated California Loggers announced a 2800 mile May journey from Eureka to Washington DC to lobby the president over the Redwood National Park expansion. Rallies will also take place in Fresno Sacramento and Los Angeles as the group travels via Sioux City Iowa en route to the capital.

Pomolita junior high to present spring concert Wednesday

About 150 Ukiah Pomolita junior high instrumentalists perform in Pomolita gym at 7 30 p m under Ed Singer and student conductors. Five bands from 20 to nearly 60 players will present concert march pops and jazz numbers with tickets 1 adults 50 cents students and 3 family donation. Proceeds support the band program.
