Sheriff’s Report Shows Mixed County Crime Trends

Mendocino County violent crime rose 4 percent in 1973 while overall crime dropped 5 percent. Ukiah Boonville area saw 13 percent violent crime rise, coastal regions fell 60 to 66 percent. Felonies down 2 percent, misdemeanors down 3 percent. juveniles crimes down 4 percent. Coroner cases up to 222 with natural deaths leading. six drowning deaths reported. Inmate cost per day rose to 10.51 dollars. jail population steady. Sheriff cites staffing shortages and space limits. deputies logged 6204 hours. neighborhood watch and cadet programs started.

Fort Bragg Denies County Use Permit for Coast Center

Fort Bragg city council rejected 5-0 a county use permit to convert a former convalescent hospital on Oak Street into a county center on the coast. The county had appealed a prior planning commission denial, and the six month option with Bank of America was terminated.
