Seven Districts Seek Tax Increases for School Programs
May 19 votes will decide six or seven proposed increases to basics in Willits River Union Ukiah Anderson Valley and Point Arena districts to offset lost state or federal funds. Body of Student Found in Plane Wreck
The body of 31 year old Sacramento State College student Charles Sylvester was found near Bailey Ridge Calaveras County after a small plane crashed. Fellow student Eugene Walter Jr age 20 piloted the aircraft, which was en route from Sacramento to Tonopah Nevada.

Convicts Seize Hostages at Marin Pier in Bay Escape Bid
Two San Quentin trustees seized a man and wife at a 200 foot T shaped fishing pier near the Marin County Rod and Gun Club threatening to kill the woman if interfered. Guards and police waited about 100 feet away as the crisis unfolded with an officer rushed to scene to talk. Bill Chessall Ends Long Career as Educator
