Defense Pays Off For 76ers In Playoff Win

Philadelphia 76ers clamped down on defense to limit the San Francisco Warriors to 29.8 percent shooting and win 126 to 95 in Game 2 at Convention Hall. Wilt Chamberlain had 19 points and 26 first half rebounds, Hal Greer scored 30, while coaches Hanum and Sharman praised the defensive performance that gave Philadelphia a 2-0 series lead.

United Press International reports the Western Hockey League playoffs began with Vancouver defeating California Seals 4-1 in Seattle to take a 4-1 semifinal series lead. Stan Gilbertson opened scoring for the Seals, Larry Lund equalized, and Bob Leminx and Chuck Holmes added second period goals for Seattle. Holmes scored again in the third as Seattle sealed the win.

Beard Wins Over Palmer With Gamble

Beard wins the 15th annual $100 Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas by one stroke over Arnold Palmer.
