Sakharovs beaten after Omsk trial entry

Lebanon War Escalates Amid Syrian Threat to Intervene

Christian forces broke a two week cease fire by storming a leftist stronghold east of Beirut, triggering a day of heavy shelling and mortars. At least 74 killed and 150 wounded in 24 hours, bringing total war toll near 17,000 dead and 35,000 wounded. Yasser Arafat to travel to Damascus with a four point peace plan aimed at reviving a joint military committee and negotiating Syrian troop withdrawal amid a tense exchange along the green line. Rabin warns Damascus against crossing a red line south of the Litani River as Syrian forces hold positions inside Lebanon.

Teng Hsiao-ping still refuses to concede defeat in China

The Ukiah Ministerial Association announces Easter week events with a Good Friday service 12:30 to 1:30 pm at First Baptist Church led by Rev. Alvernaz Named New Ukiah Chamber Manager

William Alvernaz has been chosen by the Greater Ukiah Chamber of Commerce as the new manager, replacing Connie Rose who resigned. He will assume duties May 3 and moves to Ukiah from Fresno where he works as a community relations specialist for the Council of Fresno County Governments.

Reagan charges rhetoric as Ford seeks Panama Canal treaty

Hearst ready to testify against bombers in Marin case

Patricia Hearst admitted taking part in the Marin Civic Center patrol car bombings and said she would testify against three others.
