Cannikin underground test planned in Aleutians at Amchitka

Lake County supervisor reconsiders resignation amid district support

Lakeport supervisor Wes Lampson who had offered to resign after a salary raise defeat asked the board to rescind. He cited overwhelming district input and letters from the Lakeport Lions Club and Lakeport Chamber of Commerce urging no action. District Attorney Dave Luce supplied a confirming letter Lampson signed. the board had taken no action previously.

Ukiah Unified candidates meet voters in public forum

Ukiah voters may meet the 11 candidates for the Ukiah Unified school district board and the four at large for the county board at a public forum tomorrow night at Oak Manor school starting at 8. The event, sponsored by the Ukiah Democratic Club, features moderator Supervisor Ernie Banker and club president Bill Ware.

Daisy Cutter Bombing Boosts Push to Lift Fire Base 6 Siege

Nearly 6,000 South Vietnamese reinforcements landed around Fire Base 6 as U S forces intensified the siege break attempt. Daisy Cutter bombs and B 52 sorties pounded Communist positions within a mile and a half of the besieged outpost, while U S jets struck a Laos anti aircraft site and launched further strikes toward the Ho Chi Minh trail.

Laird outlines US Asia forces, no new mass manpower

Defense Secretary Melvin Laird says the United States will keep naval and air forces in Southeast Asia indefinitely with no fresh massive manpower commitments. At 7:55 a.m. standby at Masonite dry kiln as a dust roof fire was extinguished with minor damage reported. Later, at 10:41 p.m., responders were called to clear smoke at the home of Jean Myatt 203 Tedford. no fire, fallen flue noted.

East Pakistan rebels seek recognition as Bangla Desh capital named

The rebel provisional government of East Pakistan urged democratic nations to recognize its independence from West Pakistan. It announced Chudanga Town near the Indian border as its capital and formed a six member war cabinet led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Reports from India cited massacres by West Pakistani troops in Jessore, with Italian priests and nuns among victims.
