Rowland withdraws gravel project claim amid area opposition

In Dos Rios area residents oppose Barney Rowland s plan to mine gravel from the Eel River bar 35 feet thick. An EIR was urged by a protester and a Ukiah attorney, but Rowland withdrew his negative declaration citing time and cost savings from sourcing gravel locally.

Zone change approved for Ukiah computer plant site

The Mendocino board, by 3-1 with one absent, granted Esther Wagner’s zone change from A-1 FC to ML for a 42 acre parcel south of Ukiah. The move ties to contract zoning for the John Peers Company, which plans 150 to 200 jobs in three years and assembly of ADAM English to computer programming units.

Attack on Xuan Loc Near Saigon Stirs Refugee Exodus

Communist tanks and infantry struck Xuan Loc, 38 miles east of Saigon, with more than 4,000 rounds as fighting spread toward Highway 1. Civilians reported damage to the main Xuan Loc church and thousands fled toward Saigon and toward communist lines, while government troops at Xuan Loc held their positions amid heavy shelling.
