The House approved a $668 million supplemental defense authorization while rejecting a $274 million rise for South Vietnam amid hawk dove debates. The vote was 177 to 154 with the Pentagon funding remaining intact overall and other military provisions passing.
Federal Energy administrator William E. Simons announced every state will receive at least 90 percent of 1972 gasoline levels in April, a 5 percent boost from March. He ordered 11.1 million barrels drawn from stocks as Middle East supplies replenish post embargo, with warnings of potential long lines this summer if conservation lapses occur.
