Nationwide Teamsters strike shakes U S across industries

Snipers targeted non-striking truckers on U S highways as the first nationwide Teamsters strike caused walkouts from coast to coast. Negotiations at NBC studios collapsed and city workers in San Francisco threatened waterfront and airport disruption. Fugitive dies after fatally wounding three detectives

Illinois man Ronald J. Born 41, alias Joseph R Moulood, killed three Dade County auto theft detectives at a motel, then shot himself as police surrounded him. Hodges Curlette and Cazevedo died, Curlette in parking lot, Cazevedo at scene, Born died at North Miami General Hospital.

Unemployment rate continues decline in March

The U S unemployment rate fell to 7 5 percent in March while total employment rose to 86 7 million, an all time high. The five month decline from 8 6 percent marks the longest steady drop since 1962, with adults especially women benefiting and Black unemployment falling to 12 5 percent.

Lebanon's 10 day truce began at noon easing days of heavy fighting between Christian and Moslem factions. Leftist forces still hold territory and demand Franjieh’s ouster and political realignment for a lasting peace. Syria's pressure helped halt a broader invasion as Jumblatt signaled readiness for talks and for a new president to be elected.

Grand Jury indicts six on murder related counts

Six defendants were indicted by the Mendocino County Grand Jury after a nine hour session. Tanya Marie Lewis and Frank William Hutton, both of Laytonville, face conspiracy to commit murder in the Clyde Newby case and bail was set at 30000 and 10000 respectively with reports due April 16. Lionel Joe Gunton of Calpella is charged with murder in a separate March 19 stabbing and shooting case involving his wife, with a court date set for April 9. The remaining three indictments' identities were withheld pending their court appearances.

Mendocino transit pilots rural MTA bus service debut

April 12 marks the rollout of Mendocino Transit Authority buses in rural districts Willits Covelo Westport Gualala Boonville Leggett Laytonville with CETA financed drivers and six routes.
