House committee moves to end oil depletion allowance
The Ways and Means Committee voted 18 to 7 to phase out the depletion allowance over three years. The rate would drop from 22 percent to 15 percent in 1975, then 8 percent in 1976, and be eliminated in 1977. Eliminating the allowance could add up to about 3 billion dollars annually to the U.S. Treasury. A proposal to exempt stripper wells drew no decision.

QE2 Falls Silent as Boilers Fail Afloat in Atlantic
