Messiner Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement Counts
Louanna Messiner 28 of Talmage Road pleads guilty before Superior Judge Tim O'Brien to four counts of embezzling cash from the medical clinic where she served as chief bookkeeper. She faces a maximum four year sentence under the new determinate sentencing law and is to report for probation and sentencing April 22. A prior 20 count case was reduced to four in what her attorney described as a plea, not a bargain. A civil action to recover property includes confiscated Cadillacs and a Hustler car stored in the county garage.

County Plans Require Aerial Photos On Applications
In a Thursday policy move the county planning commission approved requiring aerial photographs on all planning department applications with the cost borne by the applicant. The six commissioners present unanimously backed the rule applying to rezonings use permits minor divisions subdivisions and agricultural preserves. The policy followed a prior aerial photo from the assessor’s office purchased in 1972. Also approved were findings denying Las Brisas Unit No 3 subdivision due to water shortages and a 30 year use permit for Redwood Health Club south of Ukiah near State Street and the 101 overpass.

Dutch reporter Willem Oltmans testified before the House Assassination Committee that George De Mohrenschildt conspired with Lee Harvey Oswald to kill President Kennedy. Tragedy on Highway 101 Near Willits Claims Santa Maria Man
A 26 year old Santa Maria man was killed when his foreign convertible left Highway 101 north of Willits at 3:30 a.m. The car crossed the northbound lane, rode the east shoulder, and plunged down a 15 to 20 foot embankment. He was ejected and the vehicle rolled over him before the body was taken to Anker Lucier Mortuary.

Dune buggy crash kills Highland youth near Ridgeview
A 16 year old Highlands youth died after a dune buggy carrying two others rolled over on Old Highway 53 near Ridgeview Drive. Vernon Ferrer 17 and Tom Ferrer 18 of Lower Lake were hospitalized as investigators determine the driver. The southbound 3:54 p.m. crash remains under investigation.
