Legislature Trip to Put K. C. on Fight Ends in Politics

Columbus June 19 With Governor Hill at his home near Dayton no official at the state capitol would express himself authoritatively on the governor’s probable action regarding a resolution adopted today by the lower house urging steps to prevent the Willard Dempsey prize fight in Toledo on July 4. The general impression is Governor Cox will not interfere. Lieutenant Governor Brown said he had no legal authority. The matter rests with the governor. The policy of the executive office would be followed and no statement would be issued. The attorney general also declined to comment. The resolution claims promoters failed to obtain permission in North America except Ohio and Old Mexico and urges the governor to uphold Ohio’s fair name and to prevent the event within Ohio. The Dunn Bill defeat and the Pearson resolution split the legislature along party lines. A joint resolution requiring senate concurrence failed. The measure was re-offered as a house resolution and adopted without a record vote. Republican leaders say the governor could prevent the fight if he chose to.
