Makes Stand for the Recognition of Unions
In Washington the first public discussion of the president's labor conference drew fire from organized labor. Samuel Gompers urged definite recognition of trade unions for representation and warned against compulsory labor. Frank Morrison criticized anti-union rhetoric and called for workers to have a direct voice in conditions. Both leaders urged voluntary, non compulsory reforms and organization of workers to enable mediation and better relations with employers.
