In a council session on November 8 Bevercombe sought a permit for a gasoline filling station at the Blue Lakes Boulevard Shoshone Street and Eleventh Avenue North intersection. John E White and A L Swim opposed, arguing danger to Washington school children and alleging property value concerns. The council denied the request and later Bev ercombe pursued further action via writ of mandamus which was denied. The council then moved to prevent construction by passing an ordinance setting minimum distances for filling stations.
