National system of cooperative markets planned for farmers
Preliminary arrangements for launching a national system of cooperative grain markets were completed at the closing session of the agricultural conference. The plan calls for grain handling centers in Kansas City Chicago Omaha Sioux City Oklahoma City Minneapolis Seattle Buffalo and St. Louis to eliminate middlemen. A national union of farm loan associations would finance the project with delegates invited to a January convention. Resolutions protested federal farm loan act amendments and the Poindexter anti strike bill and urged federal control of the packing industry. A council member supported water meters to combat summer shortages despite motive linked to budgeting.
