Carlisle recounts escape from prison and flight

Carlisle, at Douglas hospital, told union Pacific officials the details of his escape from the penitentiary and subsequent flight. He described disguising a box to hide inside a freight shipment, fleeing to Rawlins, then Medicine Bow, seeking Old Mexico before turning toward familiar territory while being hunted. He admitted no accomplices and recalled robbing passengers with a hand wound. He expressed no ill will toward the railroad and noted the driver’s box plan helped his escape.
