Public authorities announce Save the Forests Week from May 23 to May 29 urging citizens to protect forests, prevent fires, and follow Forest Fires Act. Officials, judges, clergy, teachers, and others are asked to educate others and report fires to magistrates or fire patrols immediately.
On Thursday June 3 at the U C School Manuel's Cove a sale of work by the school children will take place. Cake and syrup priced at 15 cents and ice cream will be served. There will be grabs for attendees.
Pupils of the Academy announce a Sale and Concert in Academy Hall on Thursday night June 3 with general admission, refreshments, and decors opening at 7 30 p.m. A ladies dress belt lost at the Ranger Social is to be returned to Sun Office for a reward. Clocks to be set forward one hour at midnight. Outport refers to the time as "had time."
The fifth Sunday after Easter features multiple services: St Peter’s Holy Communion at 8 am and Matins at 11 am with Sunday School at 2:30 pm and Evensong at 7 pm. St Andrew’s offers Matins at 11 am and Evensong at 7 pm. United Church hosts Layman at 11 am and Bible class at 2:30 pm with Rev. T. J. Pitt, plus additional services on Lite Harbour and North Side. Crow Head conducts Sunday School at 2:30 pm. The Masonic Lodge attends the 7 pm South Side service. The Salvation Army lists Holiness Meeting, Sunday School, Bible class, Praise Service, Salvation Meeting, and an evening session. Pentecostal Assembly runs Devotional at 10:30 am, Sunday School at 3 pm, Prayer at 6:30 pm, and Evangelistic Service at 7 pm.
Proclamation by Vice Admiral Sir Humphrey Walwyn appoints Save the Forest Week on May 23rd to raise forest conservation awareness. It urges judges clergy teachers and authorities to press the issue, urges prevention of fires, and lists six specific responsibilities for settlers loggers mills and all forest visitors.
Under my hand and seal at Government House St Johns dated May 11 1943 by His Excellency’s command a formal proclamation or order is issued awaiting further details.
